Get involved with the Guernsey Welfare Service
Thank you for showing an interest in volunteering for Guernsey Welfare. There are various volunteer opportunities, please complete the contact form below telling us which area you are interested in volunteering for and we will get back in touch with you.
Linking Lives
Linking Lives matches friendly volunteers to isolateld older people who appreciate a visit and a chat. Volunteers would need to be able to commit to visiting their Link Friend for 1-2 hours, either weekly or fortnightly. You do not need any special skills as full training and support will be given but will need to be friendly, non-judgmental and a good listener. References and a police check will also be required prior to beginning visits. If you would like to receive a volunteer pack with more information then please contact Rose via the contact form below.
Volunteer Delivery Drivers
We offer a foodbank delivery service on Tuesdays and Fridays for people who can't get into the office to see us. We are currently short of drivers and are looking for someone who can help when our weekly volunteers are unavailable on a rota or ad hoc basis. You will need to be a car driver with your own car, know your way around the Island, be able to lift bags and/or boxes of food and be available from around 12.30 pm for up to an hour and a half (we can be flexible on time if during our opening hours). Please contact Sue via the contact form if you are interested.
Household Collection/Delivery Drivers
We keep a store of furniture and household items and sometimes need help with collecting or delivering such items. Volunteers would need to be physically fit and able to lift items of furniture etc. It would be beneficial to hold a driving licence and own a vehicle which you would be happy to use for this purpose but we do own a van which can also be used and sometimes it is a "driver's mate" that is needed for an extra pair of hands. The role is not for a regular day and time but flexible around our needs and your availability. If you would like to find out more, please contact Susi via the contact form below.
Foodbank and Food waste
We have people to help collect foodbank and food waste items from various supermarkets around the Island and bring them to our offices in Upper Mansell Street. At the moment this is on either a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday morning and will take 40 to 60 minutes. You need to be a car driver and able to lift heavy items. We currently have enough volunteers for our needs but if you are interested in being involved please contact Sue via the contact form below and she will send you a Volunteer Job Description should the situation change.
